The fifth Microbial Stress Meeting will focus on the microbial strategies to respond to stress.

These have enormous societal implications including areas such as human and animal health, food production, quality and processing, and in bio-based industries.

The meeting sessions will focus on a diverse range of topics that include stress responses in microbial pathogens, food production, industrial biotechnology and environmental stresses encountered by microbes.

FEMS have made available grants for early career scientists

Bioeconomy is not an autonomous sector of the economy, but rather a complex mechanism involving agriculture, industry, biotechnology, service sectors and consumers.

To measure the size of the bioeconomy in European Union (EU) countries, it is necessary to create appropriate indicators that allow it to be monitored with reference to its current state, growth rate and sector description.

In many countries, including Poland, there is no complete information or data collection system to monitor bioeconomy development directly, e.g. in the Polish Central Statistical Office.

In response to these needs, several groups of indicators related to the circular economy, sustainable development and Europe 2020 were created by the European Commission (EC) in the Eurostat database.These indicators can help monitoring of bioeconomy development in EU countries.

The present study discusses factors for bioeconomy development through an analysis of their social, economic and environmental aspects, as well as showing the value of the selected indicators in the EU and Poland.

FEMS2021 will bring together leading scientists spanning different fields of microbiology to celebrate the best of microbiology.

This congress will showcase the most recent developments in microbiology to address some of the global challenges we face today.

Industrial chemists are increasingly exposed to new automation, whether in the form of high-throughput screening of compounds against targets (or targets against compounds), in reaction optimization for process or medicinal chemistry, or in measurement of physicochemical parameters such as drug solubility.

The event is focussed on all kinds of automation in chemistry, including parallel synthesis for medicinal chemistry, high-throughput chemistry, cheminformatics, and physical property measurements.

We now have available an editorial written by Mark Harris, Professor of Virology at the University of Leeds, discussing the hot topics and latest research activities from the Microbiology Society’s SARS-COV-2 and COVID-19 workshop.
