Recently accepted paper for the EFB Journal, New Biotechnology
Many commonly used bacterial promoters employed for recombinant protein production (RPP) in Escherichia coli are capable of high-level protein expression. However, such promoter systems are often too strong, being ill suited for expressing proteins that are difficult to fold, targeted to the membrane or secreted out of the cytoplasm.

Annual Conference Online 2021 – A view from Twitter
On 26-30 April 2021, the Microbiology Society hosted our flagship event, Annual Conference, online for the first time.
We were delighted to welcome you all and see you engage in all our activities throughout the conference. In addition to the scientific programme, socials and online networking opportunities, photos of delegates' pets continued to raise our spirits on twitter.
We are also pleased to share that over 600 abstracts were submitted and will be published in Access Microbiology in July 2021.
On behalf of everyone at the Microbiology Society, thank you to all who attended across the world, we hope that you enjoyed the event as much as we did and look forward to welcoming you to Annual Conference 2022 in Belfast!

SCI EventWhat's new in immunotherapies 2021
Immunotherapy is a hot-topic field of research that has generated significant scientific interest and fuelled industrial innovation. Small, drug-like molecules are ideal for use in the treatment of chronic conditions such as autoimmune and inflammation-related diseases. Excitingly, this approach also offers the possibility to treat cancer by harnessing the body’s own immune system to fight tumours. This meeting will offer a broad introduction to those new to the topic and showcase recent innovations in this exciting and rapidly expanding field.
