Remembering Professor Jeff Cole

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Jeff Cole, former President and current Vice President of the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB), who passed away on 24 February.

Professor Cole dedicated many years to the EFB, contributing tirelessly by organizing conferences, chairing divisions, and serving in multiple leadership roles including President, Vice President, and Treasurer. His guidance and vision were instrumental in the organization.

Professor Cole was an esteemed academic, serving as Emeritus Professor of Microbiology at the School of Biosciences, University of Birmingham. His research focused on microbial physiology, particularly how bacteria adapt to oxygen and nitrosative stress.

Professor Cole’s legacy will live on through the countless colleagues, students, and members of the EFB. Further details about commemorative arrangements will be shared once available.
