Join the synthetic biology community in Manchester on 4–6 November 2026
Registration is still open for the Applied Synthetic Biology in Europe (ASBE8) Conference, taking place from 4–6 November 2026 at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, UK.
ASBE8 will bring together researchers, innovators and key stakeholders from academia, industry and the third sector to explore how synthetic biology, engineering biology and applied microbiology can help address global challenges and contribute to progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Four application domains
The conference programme will explore the broad potential of synthetic biology across four key application domains:
- Factory – clean growth, bio-based production of chemicals and materials, alternative C1 feedstocks, plastics and biogenic production.
- Pharma – cellular therapeutics, diagnostics, gene and base editing, and bio-based production of pharmaceuticals.
- Farm and Field – crop improvement, soil augmentation, waste treatment, bioremediation and biocontainment.
- Computational Design Technologies – the design of proteins, circuits, systems, networks, communities and processes.
An outstanding line-up of speakers
ASBE8 will feature leading experts working at the forefront of synthetic biology and biotechnology, including:
- Irina Borodina, DTU – Technical University of Denmark
- Adam Feist, UC San Diego / DTU
- Paul Freemont, Imperial College London
- Roman Jerala, National Institute of Chemistry
- Jennifer Molloy, University of Cambridge and ICGEB
- Juan Nogales, Centro Nacional de Biotecnología, CSIC
- Nicola Patron, University of Cambridge
Their contributions will provide insights into emerging technologies, applications and challenges shaping the future of applied synthetic biology.
Join the ASBE community
Whether you are working in academia, industry or the third sector, ASBE8 offers an opportunity to connect with the wider European synthetic biology community, discuss new research, exchange perspectives and identify potential collaborations.
The conference is organised by the EFB Divisions of Bioengineering & Bioprocessing and Microbial Biotechnology, with FEMS as a partner.
We are also pleased to acknowledge the support of our sponsors:
- Silver Sponsor: Ogilbiotec
- Bronze Sponsor: Microbiology Society, including Microbiology and Microbiology Horizons
Registration is still open. Join us in Manchester from 4–6 November 2026 for ASBE8 and be part of the conversation shaping the future of applied synthetic biology in Europe.
