The 8th Applied Synthetic Biology in Europe Conference (ASBE8) will take place from 4–6 November 2026 at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, UK.
Building on the success of previous editions, ASBE8 will highlight the latest advances in applied synthetic and engineering biology and their impact on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The conference will bring together leading scientists, innovators, and stakeholders from academia, industry, and the third sector to explore how synthetic biology can address pressing global challenges.
Focus areas
Scientific sessions will be structured around key application domains in synthetic biology, including:
- Factory: Clean growth, bio-based materials and chemical production, alternative feedstocks, and bioplastics
- Pharma: Cellular therapeutics, diagnostics, gene and base editing, and bio-based pharmaceuticals
- Farm & Field: Crop improvement, soil enhancement, waste treatment, bioremediation, and biocontainment
- Computational Design Technologies: Protein, circuit, and systems design; networks; communities; and processes
Keynote speakers
- Irina Borodina, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Denmark
- Chris Voigt, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA
