Following more than 15 years of bioeconomy, this article by Christian Patermann and Alfredo Aguilar that was published in our new journal EFB Bioeconomy Journal outlines some of the challenges that bioeconomies will be confronted with in the next decade.
This analysis does not intend either to be exhaustive, or to establish priorities among the challenges pointed out here. Rather, it aims to be food for thought, raise awareness and stimulate critical discussions among the different bioeconomy stakeholders. The authors aim to trigger further discussions that would influence the course of the bioeconomy in the coming decade with the aim to maximize its impact.

Recently accepted paper for the EFB Journal, New Biotechnology
Nanobodies are the smallest antibody fragments which bind to antigens with high affinity and specificity. Due to their outstanding physicochemical stability, simplicity and cost-effective production, nanobodies have become powerful agents in therapeutic and diagnostic applications.

Everyone faces a career challenge at some stage – even knowing which career step to take next can be difficult. For that reason, the Microbiology Society has launched its first fundraising initiative for members who may require support to help them reach their full career potential.
The Unlocking Potential fundraising appeal will generate funds to underwrite a new grant, known as the Unlocking Potential Grant. It will make funds available to early and mid-career members who may require an extra level of support.
Whatever form it takes, our grants will be tailored to the grant recipient and unique to their needs.

The RSB is running its Apprentice of the Year award for the 2nd consecutive year.
The Award has been set up to celebrate and recognise apprentices contributions to their teams and the wider bioscience community. The award also forms part of the RSB's wider work supporting technical staff and their contribution, through our support of the Technician Commitment and Technician Action Plan.
The award is open to all apprentices in the U.K. currently working within the bioscience sector. Applications from apprentices who completed their apprenticeship <1 year ago at the point of applying will be accepted. Individuals can enter the award by downloading the appropriate application form for their apprenticeship level, and submitting by 12pm, on the 16th July 2021.
