Designer Biology ´21: From proteins and cells to scaffolds and materials

The meeting brings together young and established scientists working in the fields of bioengineering, synthetic biology and biomaterials. While the larger umbrella used in these fields is similar, specific aspects are different and we think that targeting different disciplines together in one meeting will strongly benefit the bioengineering community at large and give rise to synergies and opportunities for new collaborations. After two successful events held in Vienna and Newcastle the speaker list clearly shows that it is worth attending Designer Biology '21. Don't miss the chance, register now!

EFB Journal - Plant-produced bacteriocins inhibit plant pathogens and confer disease resistance in tomato
Bacteriocins are a diverse group of bacterial antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) that represent potential replacements for current antibiotics due to their novel modes of action. At present, production costs are a key constraint to the use of bacteriocins and other AMPs. Here, we report the production of bacteriocins in planta – a potentially scalable and cost-effective approach for AMP production.

Metals in Microbiology – A new collection in Microbiology

In the run up to the Microbiology journal anniversary in 2022, we will be launching a series of themed collections, celebrating the breadth of microbiology and showcasing why microbiology matters.
We are pleased to announce that we have launched our first themed collection in this series, Metals in Microbiology.
With metals being the catalyst for almost half of all microbial reactions, this collection of keynote research will highlight how these metal-microbe interact, how to utilise metals in proteins and more.
