Biopharmaceutical and Medical Biotechnology (BMB)

The BMB Division of the European Federation of Biotechnology promotes cutting-edge research in biopharmaceutical and medical biotechnology, aiming to translate innovation into effective medicine. Focused on “Red Biotechnology,” BMB supports advancements from drug discovery to clinical application, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Key areas include new technologies in drug development, precision and personalized medicine, and the safe use of biotech in diagnostics and therapeutics. BMB also explores converging technologies—AI, data management, and novel materials—to bridge basic research and clinical practice. The division fosters collaboration across Europe and globally, encouraging dialogue between scientists, industry, and regulators. Activities include workshops (e.g., AI in biopharma manufacturing), roundtables with authorities and pharma companies, contributions to EFB congresses, and publishing guidelines and opinion papers. BMB embraces the WHO’s One Health concept and supports the UN’s goal of Good Health and Well-being.
