The “Green Green Biopharmaceuticals” will take place at the Casa de la Convalescencia, one of the buildings located within the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau grounds and constitutes one of the later works of Catalonian Modernism.
The Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau is one of the oldest institutions in Barcelona, dating from 1401 when six hospitals in the city merged to form a charity devoted to the care of people and health, still existing today. In 1901, a new hospital was started and completed in 1930, with the donation of the Catalan banker Pau Gil and operated until 2009, when the current modern hospital was built.
The historical building of Hospital de Sant Pau is a jewel of modernist architecture, commissioned to the architect Lluís Domènech i Muntaner, with a religious inspiration and proposing disruptive approaches at the time to healthcare and to the patients. It was named as a part of UNESCO's Cultural Heritage for Humanity. Today, the modernistic building has been completely renovated and it is impressive to visit.
Casa Convalescència is part of the modernist complex of Hospital de Sant Pau and it is operated as a meeting venue by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, that had its first venue there. It is a unique building, cosmopolitan and welcoming, combining both tradition and modernity, offering advanced high-technology in a space with real personality, ideal to host scientific workshops in a unique atmosphere.
