- Poster presentation: Posters must be brought to the meeting by the presenting author and should not be mailed in advance. The required dimensions are 84 cm (width) by 120 cm (height) corresponding to a A0 format. At the top of poster, please provide the title of the paper, names of the authors and their affiliations, all in bold lettering of about 2.5 to 3 cm size. Artwork and lettering should be large and clear enough so that the poster is readable from a distance of 1.5 m.
- Flash poster presentation:We will announce soon the final abstracts that will be presented as a flash poster presentation during the conference.The flash poster presentation will be about 3 minutes, using a maximum of 5 slides. To assure the timing, there will be a clock in the room that will sound when the time is done. emember to bring your PPT on a pen drive to the conference.

EUSynBioS Symposium 2018: Engineering Biology for a Better Future
the European Association of Synthetic Biology Students and Postdocs (EUSynBioS, http://www.eusynbios.org) was founded in an effort to better connect and foster young researchers in the field. This initiative has been quite well received: today, they are approaching 500 members across 15 European countries.
They are organizing their 3rd annual Symposium that will take place at INSA Toulouse from October 22nd-23rd 2018, just before the 4th Applied Synthetic Biology meeting.

Scientists from academia and industry are invited to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations describing original research in any of the conference scientific topics. The scientific committee will select the type of contribution (oral or posters) based on the review of abstracts.
Guidelines and instructions:
In order to submit your abstract, please first proceed with registration. Once you have registered, you will receive a link and instructions on how to submit your abstract. (when registering, you will not be required to pay immediately. Once the scientific committee has accepted your abstract for oral or poster presentation, it is subject to payment of your registration fee before a given deadline. If payment is not received by the given deadline, your abstract will be withdrawn, unless special arrangements have been made with the organisers)
- Abstracts must be completed using font Calibri 8.
- The body of the abstract must be concise with less than 1600 characters. The abstract form will not accept abstracts that exceed 1600 characters (body of the abstract).
- The Abstract should include the name of the presenting author underlined and should include affiliations of the co-authors.
- Standard abbreviations and SI units must be used. Non-standard abbreviations must be defined in full at their first appearance.
- Abstracts must not contain any figures or tables.

What happens once I submit my abstract?
- The corresponding author will receive an e-mail confirming the successful submission of the abstract. Authors submitting abstracts will be notified in due time about final acceptance. Please note: Once your abstract has been accepted by the scientific committee, it is subject to payment of the registration fee for the meeting, otherwise your abstract will not be included.
- Once the abstract has been submitted, changes, corrections or rewording will be possible until the 25 August, 2018. After this date changes will not be possible. Careful typing and proofreading are essential, as the abstract will be published as submitted.
- Authors will be asked to indicate to which of the programme’s streams their abstract should be submitted.
- A number of abstracts will be selected for oral presentation in the programme. All other qualifying abstracts will be selected for poster presentations.
Important: Submitting an abstract for presentation does not constitute registration for the conference. Abstract presenters must register to attend the conference by following the instructions for registration.

Prof. Lars M. Blank
Institute of Applied Microbiology, IAMB, Germany
Prof. L. M. Blank from the Institute of Applied Microbiology (iAMB) of the RWTH Aachen is an (co-)author of more than 120 Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology publications. His work on Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology includes the creation of microorganisms for the production of chemicals and proteins. Examples range from small molecules like malate, to glycolipids, and polymers. One of the tools used for quantification of microbial physiology is stable isotope-based metabolic flux analysis. In general, Lars M. Blank focuses in his research on fundamental and applied aspects of microbial metabolism. Of specific interest is the interaction between the metabolic network and the introduced genetic and environmental perturbations. The research on in silico/in vivo metabolic network operation is aimed at a deeper understanding of cell function, with the ultimate goal of rational cell engineering.
Dr. Pascale Daran-Lapujade
Delft University of Technology, Netherlands
Pascale Daran-Lapujade obtained her PhD from the INPL (Nancy, France) in 2000 and joined the Industrial Microbiology section at the Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) as assistant professor in 2005. In 2018 she has been appointed full Professor of Experimental Systems Biology. Her research focuses on addressing fundamental questions relevant for the development of efficient cell factories. At the interface of quantitative physiology, cell biology, synthetic biology and systems biology approaches, her research has contributed in obtaining a deeper fundamental understanding of the mechanisms employed by the industrial and model yeast S. cerevisiae to adapt to its environment. In the past 6 years, her research has taken a new turn in developing synthetic yeast platforms with modular genomes that enable the fast, combinatorial exploration, and optimization of the biological function of essential cellular processes.
Dr. Xavier Garrabou Pi
ETH Zurich, Switzerland
Xavier Garrabou Pi received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from the Ramon Llull University (Barcelona, 2004), and in 2005 he joined the research team of Prof. Pere Clapés at IQAC-CSIC (Barcelona). He received his Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology from the University of Barcelona (2010), and in 2011 he moved to ETH Zürich as a postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Donald Hilvert. Since 2018, he is developing artificial enzymes for industrial applications as a Pioneer Fellow with the support of the ETH Zurich Foundation. His current field of interest is the de novo creation and engineering of enzymes as catalysts for abiological carboligation reactions.
Dr. Carole Lartigue
International Institute of Agronomic Research, INRA, France
Dr Carole Lartigue received her doctorate in 2003 from the university Victor Segalen in Bordeaux, France. In 2004, she joined the JCVI Synthetic Biology team and contributed to the transplantation of the engineered M. mycoides genome into M. capricolum. Using genome transplantation technology and genome assembly methods, the synthetic biology team achieved their final goal of creating a cell controlled by a synthetic genome in 2010. In 2010, Carole returned back to INRA, Bordeaux (France) as senior scientist where she continues to expand the utility of bacterial genome transplantation in Mycoplasmas and to better understand the interaction of mycoplasmas with their hosts. C. Lartigue received in 2014 the Derrick Edward Award, (Young Researcher Award) from the International Organization for Mycoplasmology.
Dr. Karen Polizzi
Imperial College London, INRA, UK
Dr. Karen Polizzi is a Reader in Biotechnology in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. She has spent her career working at the interface of biological sciences and engineering, training first as a biochemist (BSc, University of Maine) and then a chemical engineer (PhD, Georgia Institute of Technology). In 2008, Karen joined Imperial College as an RCUK Fellow in Biopharmaceutical Processing. Karen’s research focuses on the application of synthetic biology to the development of biological systems for manufacturing including cell-based and cell-free production.
