Travel & Visas

Visa requirements
Ireland is a member of the European Union and delegates from some countries will need a visa to travel. To find out if you need a visa to visit Ireland, please visit the Government of Ireland website. Please note that a Schengen or UK visa is not valid for Ireland. If you need a letter of invitation for a visa application, we will be happy to supply this after you have registered and we have received full payment.

Practical matters
The currency in Ireland is the Euro. In Ireland, the power plugs and sockets are of type G. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

By Air
Cork Airport is 8 km south of Cork city centre and is serviced by multiple international airlines, especially during the Summer period. Aer Lingus, KLM, British Airways and Lufthansa operate flights from international hubs (London, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels) and there are many point to point flights with Ryanair in particular. A full list of destinations is available on the Cork Airport website.

By Bus
Bus connections to/from the airport and Cork City Centre are provided by Bus Eireann (route No 226 to Cork Bus Station). From the City Centre, bus route 208 comes to the UCC campus and accommodation. A taxi journey to UCC will take 10–20 minutes and will cost about €20

By Train from Dublin
Train services by Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) to Cork stop at Kent Station. Hourly intercity services to and from Dublin Heuston Station take ~ 3 hours. City bus route 205 operates between Kent Station and UCC.

By Coach from Dublin airport
There are express coach services to Dublin and Dublin Airport (operated by Aircoach and Bus Eireann)
