EFB action following the EU decision for the regulation of gene editing

Gene editing has revolutionised our ability to modify genomes for the benefit of health, agriculture and the bioeconomy. Whole genome sequencing ensures that any changes introduced by gene editing are 100% accurate. Contrary to scientific advice, the European Union recently decided that gene editing will be regulated like all other, less reliable genetic manipulation. The EFB greatly regrets that the EU has failed to base such a far-reaching decision on sound scientific advice.
